Lucy Lawless has a long and prominent career as an actress as well as a musician in New Zealand. Lucy Lawless was a popular actress and singer throughout New Zealand for a number of years. Her most well-known role is playing the character of Xena, which she did in all her work as an actor. The character was initially planned to be played by the actress Vanessa Angel but ultimately went to Lucy after she was unable to attend the shooting due to illness. The way Xena was depicted, and how it was given the due to, the show later turned out to be one of the most favorites in the world of television at the time the series was airing along with other series. It was such a hit in that Lucy's portrayal of Xena led to a spin-off show to be released in September, 1995. After the spin-off's release, the show suffered another setback in terms of ratings and importance to the culture which made the show run for six seasons. It also helped boost Lucy's popularity as an actress. Her most well-known role is her role as Diane Lewis-Swanson on NBC's popular sitcom Parks and Recreation, which she starred in from 2012 until 2015.
